The Origin of Species, Charles Darwin
The Origin of Species is a book written by Charles Darwin, the geologist and naturalist from the 19th century. It is about Darwin's evolutionary theory of natural selection. This states that all species evolve over time and the ones who have evolved well enough to survive have been 'naturally selected'. This book was banned because it completely contravened the Christian religion of the time, and was thought as blasphemy. His book created a shockwave of 'Darwinism' and the remnants of that are still left in today's society. It was banned by some countries in the 20th century. Darwin believed that evolution was right where as the theory of God was incorrect, as most people at the time where religious, this is why the book had such a large effect on the public. This was one of the greatest steps towards science disproving religion. This is one of the things that made Darwin famous as the book was presented in a time of already changing views on religion and science.
